We are a congregation of spiritual seekers in Southwest Portland.

In 1981, our group met for the first time in a home to read together the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson and to sing hymns, the first meeting of what became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Tigard. Soon we began meeting on Wednesday evenings to share healings and experiences brought about by our practice of Christian Science. For several years, we rented a house on McDonald Street in Tigard, and later, a storefront on Pacific Highway. By the end of the 1980’s, we were able to purchase property and build the church edifice where we now meet.

We are a lay congregation and a church branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, located in Boston, Massachusetts.  Our study and practice Christian Science is led by the Bible and we strive to be Christianly-motivated thinkers who have learned, through an inspired reading of the sacred text, that God is Life, Truth and Love. We see Christ Jesus as the living proof of and link to of this living God, and as our best example of His loving reality.

Our study and practice of Christian Science is part of a centuries-long unfolding of spirituality in human consciousness that led to, in 1866, a discovery by a New England woman, Mary Baker Eddy, of the universal, underlying spiritual law of God, which prevails over what seem to be the laws of matter. “Mrs. Eddy,” as we often call her, overcame the circumstances of her human experience with such receptivity to God’s truth that she discerned that God is All-in-all, that man is entirely spiritual, good and whole and that this truth has practical implications for all of humanity.

When you join us for study, prayer, practice and fellowship you will find a church home of vibrant thinkers.  However, we are not saints!  We come together to grow spiritually.  You might enjoy this Christian Science Journal article as an explanation about joining us from your perspective and life experience.

We welcome you!
